Rambling about Berne with a Space Invader

Recently, I visited a friend in Berne, Switzerland. I passed a really wonderful week, and I had not expected to encounter aliens on the rocks of the city. One afternoon, I was enjoying the view from the Münsterplattform, when a light moved fast towards me suddenly… what was going on?

It was unbelievable! First, I didn’t want to believe my eyes - an Invader from outer space had arrived…

…and told me about his mission: invading this planet, of course. How inventive. He was about to settle down in Berne, the seat of government of Switzerland, and to establish an important outpost for his fellows. Before doing so, he showed me what he had already seen in this lovely city. He was much faster than me, so I couldn’t take many photos - here is what I could capture.

He was particularly fond of both the window in the Münster of Berne (colours!) and the astronomic clock of the Zytglogge (eh well… astronomy).

The colourful emblem of the “Gesellschaft zum Distelzwang” (a Bernese guild) was an eye-catcher,

as well as the attentively designed façade of No. 22 in the Junkerngasse.

Strolling about the old town of Berne made us really hungry, but we couldn’t bring ourselves for trying some horse meat,

and had a great Berner Rösti instead *yum*

while we enjoyed the view out of the window of our “restaurant”. A chalet in the middle of the city :)

After that, we had a glass (or maybe two…) of kirsch, of which I have taken a bottle as a souvenir.

As the little alien was not used to a drink which contains 40 % ABV, we said goodbye, and he settled down at the corner of a house in Junkerngasse.

Mission accomplished!

You can meet lots of likeable people over there in Berne - and sometimes even more than just people :-)
